Supporting Portfolio, Programmes and Projects
At Level Two of the PMO career path, the PMO here can mean portfolio, programmes or projects.
Level Two roles include Analysts, Co-ordinators, Planners and more experienced Project Support Officers.
At this level we see PMO practitioners working in Portfolio Management Offices; Programme Offices and Project Offices so learning and development at this level covers all of these.
It might feel like a large jump from the project support roles to supporting portfolios but there is a progression which is supported by the PMO certifications and training available.
The P3O® Foundation course is a good next step to the PMO Essentials for PMO Administrators™ course because it’s all about the structure of PMOs; the different types of PMO; the functions and services they provide and how PMOs operate in an organisation.
It’s a high-level course that helps you to understand current best practice in PMOs and starts building your knowledge in PMO functions and services.
This is a three-day course and includes the examination on the final day.
It’s a course which is certified by Peoplecert and AXELOS, so you’ll receive a formal qualification and a certification if you pass the course.
P3O® is considered to be the most recognised PMO certified course in the UK today.

The course is focused on two core areas – first, the service-based approach to providing services from the PMO. Second, the core competences, knowledge, skills and behaviours required to perform the role of PMO Analyst successfully.
It’s the course to do if you really want to understand what you are expected to do in the role of PMO Analyst, you’ll be able to provide PMO services required to support delivery activities in projects, programmes and portfolios, such as planning, scheduling, risk management, change control, benefits management and risk management for example.
This is a five-day course and includes the examination on the final day.
It’s a course that is certified by APMG and created by the House of PMO, the professional body for PMO practitioners, so you’ll receive a formal qualification and a certification if you pass the course.

Level 2 Learners
“Personally, I will be able to better describe the PMO I work in and the tasks I undertake. In my role, I would like to create connections with other PMOs within the organisation so we are more joined up and can utilise one another’s knowledge and resources”
“I’ve got a plan of action! I will get our team together and go through the 22 service domains and RAG them in terms of what we want to do against what we don’t want to do and also the priority of those we choose. That way we can formulate a plan to roll out new services that will be more beneficial and close down any that are of no value any more.”
“I got the most benefit from the PMO Service Catalogue. It’s a tangible and practical approach to supporting programmes/ projects and ensuring that the organisation’s business objectives are met.”
“The course content was rich, the trainer was able to cover any PMO topic, her knowledge and experience are outstanding.”
“It made me realise that this knowledge needs to be shared with the wider organisation. One of my colleagues is pursuing how we engage a wider audience.”
“Trainer was very experienced in PMO and able to provide good examples to support learning. She got everyone in the group involved and working with one another and enabled knowledge sharing between the group.”
“My team loved it. Bringing a trainer in on site meant they spent time together as a team, they got excited and enthused over what we could do and putting our world to rights was a powerful exercise for them all.”
“Found the course very good and made so because of the delivery of the training. Eileen was extremely passionate about PMO and it came across in her training, she was very engaging and ensured that we were all engaged and made lots of real life references where things were a bit unclear.”
“Excellent delivery, kept it engaging as Eileen was so passionate about it. Great stories, real-life examples, excellent explanation, patience AND most importantly – FAB sense of humour 🙂 “
“Gave me a fabulous intro to PMO and I love it!”
